Synopsis:

Vreemde stemmen, bovennatuurlijke krachten en zinderende spanning zijn de ingrediënten van deze verfilming van Stephen King's The Shining. De afgekickte alcoholicus Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) en diens vrouw Wendy (Shelley Duvall) hebben dienst in het Overlook Hotel in de Rocky Mountains. Helaas luistert het echtpaar niet naar hun zoontje (Danny Lloyd): zijn visioenen worden een ware nachtmerrie als demonen in het hotel hun duivelse werk doen en Jack in een waanzinnige veranderen.
