Alfonso Cuaron wint DGA Award

Alfonso Cuaron heeft voor het regisseren van Gravity de DGA Award gewonnen.

De prijs, uitgereikt door The Directors Guild of America, geldt als een goede graadmeter voor de Oscars. Hierbij moet wel opgemerkt worden dat de winnaar van vorig jaar, Ben Affleck, geen Oscarnominatie voor Beste Regie kreeg. Al won zijn film Argo wel de Oscar voor Beste Film.

De DGA gaf daarnaast ook prijzen voor onder meer tv-films en tv-series. In de eerste categorie ging de DGA Award naar Steven Soderbergh voor zijn film Behind the Candelabra. Die film kwam in Nederland weliswaar uit in de bioscoop, maar in de VS was hij slechts op HBO te zien. Bij de tv-series ging de prijs naar Breaking Bad.

De Nederlandse regisseur Matthijs van Heiningen jr. was genomineerd in de categorie 'commercials.' Hij regisseerde een reclame voor Sony PlayStation. Hij won echter niet. De prijs werd gewonnen door de regisseur van een reclame voor cognacmerk Hennessy.
